Jacob & Co. Brings The Mechanical Bling With This Exclusive Epic X Chrono Sky Blue

Only available at Watches of Switzerland and MAYORS, the famed jeweler eschews gems for technological prowess.

Timepieces from Jacob & Co, the haute horlogerie and jewelry house, are prized by celebrity watch collectors because they are not for the faint of heart. They are for connoisseurs like boxer Floyd Mayweather (who once dropped $18 million on a diamond-encrusted watch called ‘The Billionaire’) because they demand attention.

And while the brand is best known for its diamond bedazzled timepieces, it’s not just the gems that make a statement. Last year, Jacob & Co. teamed up with Bugatti to release the Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti that featured two triple-axis tourbillons. And who can forget the Astronomia Tourbillon? This timepiece is one of the most poetic representations of the celestial world.

Grand complications are definitely in the Maison's wheelhouse, and the best, most recent example of Jacob & Co.’s watchmaking skills is this limited edition Epic X Chrono Sky Blue, now available exclusively at Watches of Switzerland and select MAYORS boutiques.

RARE BEAUTY

This new timepiece is the latest version of Jacob & Co.’s celebrated Epic X Chrono. Visually, it’s stunning. The first thing you notice is the contrast between the blue mineral crystal dial with rose gold accents and the 47mm Grade 5 titanium and 18K rose gold case. These elements are pleasingly balanced with the attention of a master jeweler.

Although it’s a big watch, it's designed to appeal to men and women alike, and its sky-blue pushers, crown, and open-worked rubber strap lend it a lighter look.

Inside, the semi-skeleton column-wheel bi-compax self-winding movement features 260 components and offers a 48-hour power reserve. It’s indeed a bold watch, but it’s also a departure for the brand because it feels like a piece that merges with its wearer’s personality without overtaking it.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

The Epic X Chrono Sky Blue was launched this week and will be available for purchase at Watches of Switzerland’s four US boutiques (NYC - Hudson Yards and SoHo, Boston, and Las Vegas) over the next eight weeks.

“Watches of Switzerland is one of our most important retail partners, so when they approached us to collaborate with them on this limited edition project, we were happy to,” says Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co. “Just as we have revolutionized watch creation, Watches of Switzerland has changed the face of watch retail.”

And it truly is a timepiece that is best appreciated in person. The Watches of Switzerland flagship at Hudson Yards will also showcase the Epic X Chrono Bugatti and Epic X Chrono Messi Limited Edition timepieces. In addition, visitors to WOS’s Hudson Yards boutique will have an opportunity to experience other examples of Jacob & Co.’s exceptional collection of haute horlogerie models, including the Astronomia Black Dragon, Astronomia Sky and Astronomia Solar Baguette, the Twin Turbo Furious, and The Godfather.

Being able to get up close and personal with these ultra-rare watches will only enhance your appreciation of what an achievement the Epic X Chrono Sky Blue truly is.

HOT HAUTE

Jacob & Co. is all about exclusivity, but this latest special edition lets new collectors appreciate the brand on a whole new level. Less bling allows for more focus on mechanics. Made of 60 unique parts, this in-house chronograph calibre is a mechanical marvel. But the finish of the movement is also brilliant: the bridges are polished, the column wheels are angled and drawn, and the anthracite rotor is signed “Jacob & Co Genève” in a luxe red-lacquered engraving.

The Epic X Chrono Sky Blue is also easy to operate. Small seconds are shown at the 9 o’clock position, the minute counter at 3 o’clock. Elapsed seconds are displayed with a red, central chronograph hand, activated by the rubber-coated pusher at 2 o’clock. Finally, an ancillary crown at 10 o’clock, moves a rotating inner bezel and sets a countdown timer.

And with water resistance rated up to 200 meters, it’s a watch that is meant to be seen, and used, every day.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

“We are constantly striving to raise the bar and deliver breakthrough experiences for our clients,” says David Hurley, Executive Vice President of The Watches of Switzerland Group USA. “This exciting partnership with Jacob & Co. gives us the opportunity to not only showcase exceptional and exclusive timepieces but reinforce our reputation as the premier destination for watch lovers.”

Limited to 180 pieces, the Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono Sky Blue will retail for $48,000.

And this partnership with Jacob & Co. is just the first in a series of exclusive collaborations planned for 2020. The plan is to continue to deliver unique and compelling activations for both Watches of Switzerland and MAYORS customers.
